It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
